I was depressed and did not want to be alive anymore- at age 18! (I listened to Megadeth, Metallica, Alice in Chains and other bands constantly) Also, I was addicted to chewing tobacco, up to 4 hours a day, and was getting spots on my gums! That’s when I tried to quit by smoking cigarettes and cigars, and that got me addicted to both, sometimes at the same time. My old friends and I called it, “the Double Tobacco Pack.” I cussed like a sailor, drank Vodka and loved it, and smoked Marijuana on occasion.
Yes, I was born-again, but I still had major problems. I couldn’t keep a job, and I still had a lot of those old habits plaguing my life. But, as I kept coming to church, God kept working on me. Some think you need not go to church, but those are the same people that have no victory in their lives. God is still working on me but I am totally delivered from suicidal thoughts, streaking, alcohol, nicotine, pornography and fornication, bad language, and other things that put a damper on a relationship with God.
In 2001, shortly after re-dedicating my life to Jesus Christ, I graduated from high school in Green Bay, WI, and moved up north to a little village called Fish Creek! I came up to open my own art gallery and soon found myself in a full-gospel church.
Pastor Tom Terry was the wildest thing I had ever seen! In the first few months of going to his church, I literally hated him. He preached the truth, and it stepped all over my toes, whereas all I ever knew was religion. He said, “If you can’t submit to man, you can’t submit to God,” among other things I didn’t want to hear. I was religious and rebellious. I originally just came to church because I wanted some friends, but then I kept coming back because I was getting my life changed in God’s presence!
That is where I found out I was called of God to be a Pastor, which was the exact thing I never wanted to be. I was filled with the Holy Ghost in this church, and Pastor Tom was even nice enough to cast the devil out of me in a prayer line the first year! Then I began meditating the Word (Joshua 1:8), praying with other tongues constantly (I Corinthians 14:18), listening to faith teaching on my walk-man, and reading Kenneth Hagin books like there was no tomorrow.
I went to just about every service and have been going ever since. This is also when God “sent His word and healed me, and delivered me from my destructions” – Psalm 107:20. Piece by piece God started ripping out all the darkness in my life and made me new. God set me free from depression with Colossians 2:15. He set me free from fornication with Galatians 5:1. He taught me to love others with the book of I John and daily confession of I Corinthians 13:4-8 (Amplified Version). There is nothing that meditating the Word can’t set us free from! I did like Pastor said, I took the scriptures in the New Testament that said who I was “in Him,” placed my name in it, and confessed it to myself over and over. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
God is good and He is still working on me, I am not perfect, my wife Jennifer will attest to that! But, my relationship with the Lord Jesus is getting better by the day! If I give him 100% of me, He gives me 100% of Him and more! But I know and always will know, that a totally fulfilled life with God can never be found without a good local church that preaches the uncompromising Word of God and flows with the Holy Ghost! The Holy Ghost is awesome- I used to get drunk in the alcohol spirits, now I get drunk in the Holy Spirit, which is a whole lot better than a nasty hangover!
I am now living in Sturgeon Bay with my lovely wife Jennifer, and two beautiful daughters. I am currently preparing for full-time ministry at Faith Alive Fellowship with Pastor Tom Terry, attending bible college, and operating a fine-art business (kornowskioriginals.com). Last but not least, I am still learning how to walk in love with my dog Muffin.
